Master Plan Update 2025-2026

What is a Master Plan in local government?

It is a guideline that outlines a community's vision for future development, land use, infrastructure and overall growth by getting goals, policies and strategies. It is not, however, considered a legal binding document. 

The City of Laurel Master Plan Review Committee is underway, tasked with reviewing and updating all elements of the current City of Laurel Master Plan. This Committee will meet on a monthly basis, typically on the last Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend, however public comment is only during public hearing sessions.

You can request a printed copy, however, there is a $30 fee or you can view it online here: 2016 Master Plan

How can the public get involved?

• Attend the meetings, all meetings are open to the public Certain meetings will offer Public Comment such as when it goes to the Planning Commission.
• Share ideas via survey (the City will be launching a survey throughout this update process)
• Submit written comments and/or speak at the public hearing  
• Questions or comments regarding the Master Plan update can be received anytime, please send them to ecd@laurel.md.us

What is the general process of updating the Master Plan?

A Committee is formed and tasked to review and update the current plan. Through research, public meetings, community outreach, public hearing and data review, a new draft will be constructed. It will then go before the City of Laurel Planning Commission for recommendation. Once it goes through the Planning Commission it will then go before the Mayor and City Council for final review and approval.
