[ARCHIVED] City Offices Closed Due To Winter Weather Storm

Due to anticipated severe winter weather, including heavy snowfall, sleet, and freezing rain, all City of Laurel offices will be closed on Monday, January 6, 2025. Only essential personnel are required to report to duty. Crews are actively preparing for the storm, which is expected to last for the next 24 to 36 hours. Please be advised that trash and recycling collections will proceed as scheduled. To avoid interfering with plowing operations, we kindly ask that you refrain from placing your cans in the street.

Forecast: The National Weather Service has forecasted a 100% chance of snow on beginning around 9:00 p.m. tonight and continue through Monday, tapering off by approximately 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The heaviest snowfall is expected between 3:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Total snow accumulation is anticipated to range from 8 to 12 inches. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing, which means snow will accumulate on sidewalks and roadways, creating hazardous conditions. Plowing Operations: The City of Laurel Department of Public Works (DPW) is fully prepared with deicing agents and plow crews, who will begin operations at 11:00 p.m. and work in 12-hour shifts. If possible, please avoid travel during the storm to allow crews to work efficiently. If travel is necessary, exercise caution and reduce your speed, as icy conditions are expected.

City of Laurel Parking Restriction: Under Section 2-177 of the Laurel City Code, a person may not park a vehicle on any street, or on any side of or portion of any street, that is designated and appropriately signposted as a "snow emergency street" during the period in which a snow emergency has been declared and is in effect. The City police, the state police, or the county police may have any vehicle which is parked in violation of this division towed from the street and stored, and the cost of such towing and storage shall be paid by the owner.

Joseph R. Robison Laurel Municipal Center: The Joseph R. Robison Laurel Municipal Center, Laurel Armory Anderson & Murphy Community Center, and Robert J. DiPeitro Community Center will be closed on Monday, January 6, 2025.  Essential personnel are asked to report as scheduled.   City offices are expected to resume normal operations on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 9:00am.

Craig A. Moe Laurel Multiservice Center: The Craig A. Moe Laurel Multiservice Center will be open for normal operations on Monday, January 6, 2025 from 8:00am to 8:00pm.   Citizens in need of a warming center overnight can be directed to the Laurel Beltsville Senior Center.

Emergency Operations Center: The City of Laurel Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is staff and activated as of 9:00pm this evening. The EOC will remain operational throughout the event.  For life-threatening emergencies, please call 9-1-1.
