Laurel, MD - [July 24, 2024) Are you a resident or business owner within the City limits of Laurel? Would you like to gain a better understanding of how your local government functions?
Mayor Keith R. Sydnor is excited to open applications for the 2024 Fall Laurel Citizens University. This program offers insight into the purpose, process, and structure of your local government and engage with staff to learn about finances, operations, projects, and services.
The first session will begin on October 3, 2024, and will be held Thursday evenings from 6:00 - 8:30pm:
- Mayor/Council/Clerk/City Administrator Offices: October 3, 2024
- Parks and Recreation: October 10, 2024
- Fire Marshal & Permit Services/Economic & Community Development: October 17, 2024
- Information Technology/Communications: October 24, 2024
- Public Works: October 31, 2024
- Budget and Personnel Services: November 7, 2024
- Police: November 14, 2024
- Community Resources and Emergency Management: November 21, 2024
- Graduation: Monday, November 25, 2024
Registration is limited to 20 participants, with selection made on a first-come, first-serve basis for any City of Laurel resident or business owner 18 years of age or older. Participants may not currently hold a position as an elected official or seek office during the duration of the program.
Sessions are free and include all course materials, a graduation ceremony, a class photo and a diploma upon completion.
