Laurel, MD – [Friday, January 10, 2025] – The City of Laurel has officially rescinded the Notice to Vacate for residents of The Tiers at Laurel Lakes Condominiums. After a comprehensive inspection of the property on January 8, 2025, the Department of the Fire Marshal and Permit Services has determined that the complex is now safe for occupancy.
The inspection confirmed that most of the violations related to structural and life safety codes, especially those involving the exterior stairwells, have been resolved. Necessary repairs have been carried out to ensure residents' safety, including the installation of temporary shoring and reinforcement of the stairs to comply with the 2018 International Building Code and other applicable safety standards.
Key Updates:
- 54 stairs are now fully compliant with safety codes.
- Four stairs serving certain buildings remain under remediation due to material concerns but are safe to use in the interim. Necessary repairs are underway, with updated temporary signage reflecting the improvements as they occur.
- Omega Contracting & Consulting has worked diligently to reinforce the structural integrity of the stairwells. The engineer of record has certified the shoring of these structures until final replacement, which is projected to be completed by March 2026.
“I am pleased that the necessary repairs have been completed and that the building has successfully passed all required inspections,” says Mayor Keith Sydnor. “It brings me great relief to know that our residents can remain in their homes with the assurance of their safety. The well-being of our residents is always our top priority. I want to sincerely thank the Management Company and the Board for their diligence and urgency in addressing this matter. Your commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents is deeply appreciated.”
Residents are encouraged to contact property management for any additional information or updates regarding ongoing repairs.
