Laurel, MD [June 17, 2024] The City of Laurel’s Department of Community Resources and Emergency Management (CREM) is alerting residents to extreme heat and high humidity that will impact our area.
Higher than normal temperatures expected throughout the week, with back-to-back days of temperatures above 90 degrees. The community is urged to take necessary precautions to stay safe during this hazardous weather condition. The extreme temperatures mean there is the potential for heat-related illnesses, especially for outdoor activities.
Heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke, are real dangers during this extreme weather event, particularly for vulnerable populations. Symptoms of heat exhaustion include heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, and nausea.
To prevent such illnesses, individuals should stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day, stay well-hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities, and wear appropriate clothing.
