After a canvass of all mail-in and provisional ballots on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, by the Board of Elections Supervisors, the winning candidates gained ground over their closest competitors.

Mayor-elect Keith Sydnor made history.  He is the City of Laurel’s first black Mayor.

Five-term Mayor Craig A Moe did not run for re-election this year.

Mayor Moe had high praise for the man who will succeed him.

“I think Keith is going to do a great job for the City. He’s worked very hard for the City over the years.  He’s got a great vision. He’s disciplined. He’s high integrity, and he’s ready to work with the community,” Mayor Moe says.

Mayor-elect Sydnor says he is proud to have gotten the support of so many people in the community, and he is ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work.

“This is one of the biggest races in the City of Laurel.  I’m just looking forward to working with the new Council and just moving the City forward like we promised to do,” Mr. Sydnor says.

Also elected in Ward 1 were Incumbents James Kole and Carl DeWalt. In Ward 2, Council members-elect Kyla Clark and Jeffrey Mills. And for At Large Council member-elect Christine Johnson.

The Board of Elections Supervisors will present the official votes to the current Council at a Special Meeting on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 6 pm.

The new Mayor and City Council will be sworn in on November 27, 2023, at the Mayor and City Council Meeting at 6 pm.
