Purpose and Duties
The Committee shall protect and enhance the diversity of the City through the following:
- Coordinate and advise the Mayor and City Council, City departments and the community regarding issues impacting multicultural communities.
- Educate the community about the City’s cultural diversity.
- Recognize those in the community that are making a difference in the areas of diversity.
- Plan the annual Community and Culture Day Festival, which shall be held on the Second Saturday of September each year.
Budget
The Committee shall receive a budget for the annual festival approved by the Mayor and City Council. Committee members shall receive no salary. Participation is voluntary.
Membership
The Committee shall consist of seven (7) City Residents and or City Business Owners with an additional member from the City Staff.
- The members shall have a desire and interest to improve the cultural diversity in the City of Laurel.
- Each member shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council.
- Each member shall be appointed to a three (3) year term.
- The Chairperson of the Committee shall be a member of the City Council.
- The Vice Chairperson shall be elected from the Committee membership.
- A City Staff person from the Mayor’s Office shall serve as the Secretary and shall keep records of Committee meetings.
- The Committee shall be made up of seven (7) City residents and or City business owners.
Meetings
Meetings shall be held quarterly at a minimum as set by the Chairperson.
