Running for Office
The next City Election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4, 2025. All five council seats will be up for election: 1 At-Large seat, 2 seats representing Ward 1 and 2 seats representing Ward 2. Candidates must run for election from the Ward in which they live and shall remain residents of that ward while holding office. At-Large candidates shall be resident(s) of the City from either Ward 1 or Ward 2 and shall remain a resident of the City while holding office.
Qualifications for Council
City Councilmembers shall be persons of known integrity, experience and sound judgment, not less than twenty-one (21) years of age, citizens of the United States, registered to vote in City elections and residents of the City and the ward for which they seek election for one year (three hundred sixty-five (365) days) immediately preceding the date of their election. Each Councilmember shall hold their office for two years from the date of the second regular meeting after the election in November of the year of their election and until the qualification of their successor. A Councilmember shall remain a resident of the City, within the ward from which they were elected and must remain a registered voter within such ward while holding office. The At-Large Councilmember shall be a resident of either Ward 1 or Ward 2 and shall remain a resident of the City of Laurel and remain a registered voter while holding office.

A Candidate Information Session will be held on July 15, 2025 at 6:00 pm in the Council Chamber of the Joseph R. Robison Laurel Municipal Center located at 8103 Sandy Spring Road Laurel, Maryland 20707. Candidates are strongly encouraged to attend this session.
The deadline to file completed Candidate Packets is July 25, 2025 by 12:00 pm.
Note: Any packets received after 12:00 pm will not be accepted or considered.
