Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service Event Scheduled for January 15th

News - Press Releases Posted on December 28, 2023

The City of Laurel is proud to bring you their annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service event and Mayor Keith Sydnor and the Laurel City Council invite you to attend on January 15, 2024, from 10:00am - 2:00pm at the Laurel Multiservice Center, 204 Ft. Meade Road.

 The theme this year will center around Laurel’s vulnerable population as we partner with Laurel Advocacy and Referral Services (LARS)…New Year, New You.

 The Day of Service event will start with a program featuring speakers, musical selections from the Laurel High School Choir and then will move into handing out Toiletry Bags to those in need, as well as highlight the new facility that will help those in need and all the local resources it will provide, as well as volunteer opportunities.

 Want to Volunteer or need Community Service Hours? Here’s how you can help:

  •  Community Service Hours
    1. School-aged students needing hours can either:
      • Help collect toiletry items for the bags prior to the event and earn one hour of Community Service;
      • Help us put the Toiletry Bags together prior to the Day of Service event; and/or
      • Assist handing out bags the day of the event.
  • Volunteer
    1. We will need help setting up the day of the event, handing out the Toiletry Bags and breaking down.
  • Donate
    1. There will be a Collection Bin outside the front doors of the Laurel Multiservice Center, and we are asking you to please bring non-perishable/unexpired items to help restock LARS’ pantry.

 For more information on how you can participate, please call Careen Koubek at 301-725-5300 ext. 2109.
