Phone Scam Alert

The Laurel Police Department has received multiple reports from residents who have been called from a number made to look like our non-emergency line, 301-498-0092. The caller identifies themselves as a police officer by stating a name and a badge number. The caller proceeds to inform the person on the line that they have open warrants that must be paid for immediately. The caller attempts to collect money through detailed instructions.
We would like our residents to be aware that this is a scam, and no member of the Laurel Police Department will ever call to collect money of any sort over the phone or via the internet.
If you receive one of these calls report it to us immediately. We are actively investigating this crime, and we encourage anyone with any information to please contact us at 301-498-0092, or anonymous tips can also be sent to LPDtips@laurel.md.us.
